Torrington Gives Farmers tax break

While the town looks to impose new taxes on one specific business group (landlords), they are actively giving tax breaks to another group (farmers). Gotta love the thought process.

Torrington tax exemption will aid farmers with new buildings
TORRINGTON — The City Council adopted an ordinance Tuesday that would give property tax exemptions to farmers for new farm-only buildings.

The ordinance, modified from an optional state ordinance, will give farmers who can prove annual farm-related expenses of $15,000 or more, an exemption on up to $50,000 of the new building’s assessed value.

The ordinance passed with hopes it would give local farmers an incentive to grow their businesses.
